About PollutionScan

PollutionScan makes EPA environmental compliance data accessible to everyone. We transform raw government data from the EPA's ECHO (Enforcement and Compliance History Online) database into easy-to-understand facility profiles, geographic reports, and industry rankings.

What Data We Cover

Our database includes compliance and enforcement data for over 1.5 million regulated facilities across the United States, covering four major environmental programs:

  • Clean Air Act (CAA) — Air quality violations, evaluations, and enforcement actions
  • Clean Water Act (CWA) — Water discharge violations, inspections, and penalties
  • Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) — Hazardous waste management violations
  • Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) — Drinking water system violations and site visits

Data Source

All data comes from the EPA ECHO database, which is public domain (U.S. government work). We download the complete ECHO Exporter dataset weekly and process it to provide up-to-date compliance information.

Compliance Grades

We compute a compliance score (0-100) for each facility based on their violation history, penalties, enforcement actions, and inspection results. Grades are assigned as follows:

A
B
C
D
F

These grades are computed estimates based on EPA data. They are not official EPA ratings. For official records, please visit the EPA ECHO website.
